Help for old Achilles tendon rupture, I am Way Late and Old

I am Neil, a 57 year old male in decent condition, except for one big problem:
8 years ago, I was running up to some concrete steps, with my arms full of books. I landed on the first step with my left toes, placing all my weight coming down on the back of my ankle.
There was an instant feeling of shock that ran up my leg, followed by pain and a limp.
Although I knew that my Achilles had been injured, I chose not to go to a doctor.
I limped for months and retaught myself to walk in a manner similar to someone with a prosthetic leg and foot.
I learned to rebalance my weight.
After several years my son noticed that one of the muscles in my calf had atrophied and I noticed a thickened area which is still there above my ankle,where my tendon and muscle had retracted to.
I have lived with this since then, but now I am experiencing back problems from years of shifting more weight onto my right leg, especially in my lumbar region, creating sciatic nerve pain at the right hip, right knee, and right ankle.
Can I at my age and with so many years, still have any chance of success in reattaching my Achilles tendon?
Well, due to the miracle of scalpels and other medical paraphenelia, the structure absolutely CAN be reattached. It may not be pretty, it certainly won't be enjoyable, and depending on a variety of factors, the surgeons may or may not give the structure much chance of 'sticking' together.
It just kind of all depends on your overall health and the actual state of the structures in the lower leg.
The recovery, now that's a different story. It's going to suck, one way or another.
Is it doable? Yes.
Is it going to take some time, effort, discipline, and depending on the route you go, money? Yes.
Tendonitis is one thing. But while you technically don't have tendonitis (although you have all the different factors that are involved in tendonitis), you have a worse scenario, Achilles Tendon Rupture

That's the leg specifically. I'm not much help online for the back pain and sciatica. That's a whole body dynamic.

In the short term it can knock out your back pain/sciatica (fast).
In the longer term, it will take your surgery recovery from an 8-12 (at best) month process to a less than 6 month process (or less, depending on your motivation levels). And it'll take care of the back pain, which just having surgery is unlikely to.
And there's a slight possibility that with it you can skip the surgery, though I don't know enough about it and your specific scenario to have much of an opinion on that. Might be bigger than slight, you'd have to talk to them.
