I just got tendonitis last week. Do you think its possible to run a half marathon in a week?

I have tedonitis in my inner ankle.

It started to hurt on monday of last week.

I went to the doctor thursday and have gone to physical therapy twice and everyday next week.

It is a little painful now but not nearly has painful as thursday.

Do you think I can run my half marathon on sunday?

Is it possible to heal that quickly?

Joshua Answers:

Hello Celeste.

Is it possible? Sure.

Can you do it without hurting yourself more? Maybe.

Can you heal in a week? It is possible, yes.

It just all depends on exactly what you have going on.

Is it just inflamed? Have you actually been getting wear and tear damage to the tendon? Is this new, or the flare up of a Pain Causing Dynamic that's been developing for a while.

Lots of variables.

Your best, most immediate bet, is to ice it like crazy.

Ice Dips, and Ice Massage, as described on the How To Reduce Inflammation page.

Tendonitis can be tricky business, and can cause you pain from a variety of directions.

Inflammation is a constant though.

I know that's kind of a vague bunch of answers....

Ultimately, the more self care you do, the faster it will 'heal'.
