Having Plantar Fasciitis surgery next week!
by Stefani
(Miami)
I am 47 yrs old and have had pain in my feet for years. Back in 07 I was diagnosed with Plantars Fasciitis. My Dr had custom orthotics made which I have faithfully used ever since.
They helped to relieve the pain some, but I still lived with a lot of discomfort. Especially if I was on my feet for any extended amount of time.
About a year ago, I started a new job which has me standing for 6 hours straight every day. The pain in my feet, especially the right one, became unbearable. I went back to the Dr and he tried cortisone shots, which did nothing to relieve my pain.
He then sent me for an MRI of my right foot which showed torn ligaments, bone spur, swollen bone, and a sprain. He then decided at this point to put me in a walking cast (big, black, bulky boot) for 8 weeks. Today, after wearing the boot for 8 weeks, I went back to the Dr. The boot did nothing to relieve my pain, so he has elected to do surgery next week.
I have read alot of negative things on this site about the surgery and it has me a little concerned. I have also read some stories that have good results after this surgery.
My Dr is very reputuable in my area and came highly recommended. So, I feel like I am in good hands. I can't live in the pain I am
in, so I feel as if I don't have any other choice but to have surgery. I am hoping I am right.
I will update after the surgery and let everyone know if it was worth it.

Please do let us know what happens!
I certainly can't predict whether surgery will work our or not. It depends on many variables.
If you have torn ligaments and such, that it just might not be a bad thing to get in there and clean it up.
Key to me, though, is the self care the surgeon gives you to ensure that you heal as optimally as possible.
