Using Plantar Fasciitis Support
3 Reasons Not To
If you are like most people using Plantar Fasciitis support in the hopes of getting rid of Plantar Fasciitis symptoms, you will eventually get the advice that you should use a variety of methods to support their foot.
The theory is that the extra support will help heal the issue with the Plantar Fascia.
Unfortunately, support just prolongs your suffering.
Across the board, wraps for the ankle and foot, and the boot are forms of immobilizing the tissue of the foot. Theoretically, limiting the mobility of the tissue of the foot will keep damage from happening and allow the foot to heal. That is good in theory, but the body doesn’t really work that way.
Plus there are other downsides. Have you ever seen anyone limp around in the big bulky boot contraption? I just spoke with a woman who has been wearing one for a month, and you can imagine all the problems in her knees, hips, and back that walking around with that thing can cause.
I’m going to keep inserts and orthotics out of this conversation, as they can be really effective or not, it depends on the specific person, the specific foot, and the specific orthotics and advising professional.
There are 3 main problems with using methods that support your feet.
Problem #1. The problem with Plantar Fasciitis is bigger than just rip and tear damage of the fascia.
Like all Tendonitis problems, there is an entire dynamic involved. It’s not just a matter of micro-tears in the tissue of the plantar fascia. There is also an inflammation response, how the body responds to that response, the mechanism with which the body tries to protect you from more damage, and many other factors and variables at play.
Using Plantar Fasciitis Support to just bind your foot up, or wear a boot, your foot may feel better. It -may- become pain free. But there is a lot going on underneath the surface of your skin, and it is valuable to understand that even if support makes the pain diminish, the Tendonitis dynamic is still there, and is in fact entrenching itself deeper and deeper.
Problem #2. Your body will learn to rely on the support, instead of adapting to support itself.
The body is amazing in many ways. It is also incredibly lazy. For instance, if you drink coffee, the body says “Hey, I don’t need to make adrenaline because the caffeine is giving me energy.” So the adrenals start getting less and less responsive and the body starts to rely on the caffeine.
Same thing with the foot. If you are using Plantar Fasciitis support and wrap the foot or wear a boot, the body says “I don’t need to do the work or build the structure to support myself.”
And your body will literally start getting weaker as it starts to rely more and more on the support.
So when you take the support off...more damage and heightened Pain Causing Dynamic.
Problem #3. Supporting the foot is different than fixing the problem.
If you want to fix you Plantar Fasciitis, you need to do things that fix it, instead of things that just support it.
If you don’t use the right tool for the job, you won’t get the results you want. You wouldn’t use a fork to dig a ditch would you? Using Plantar Fasciitis support is the WRONG tool for the job.
Tendonitis issues like Plantar Fasciitis follow a specific pattern of development and progress. And it requires a specific set of tools to reverse it.
Using Plantar Fasciitis support is great if you want to prolong your suffering.
